Enjoying mum's new convertible...

'How does it feel to become a middle-age stereotype' my brother asked my mum as she entered the driveway with her new BMW convertible. 'Fantastic' she replied without hesitation! Later that day, my brother understood exactly what she meant as they soared along the motorway with the top down...!

I on the other hand had a slightly more reserved consideration. There are times when I opt for a wig as a mainstay to my outfit. Meetings with potential or new clients, times where it simply matches my outfit and moments when I don't have sun cream to hand and require additional protection. All of these factors left me with one mild worry - how would my wig fare in a top-down convertible?!

In my mind, I had visions of travelling with the top down, minding my own business, then watching in horror as my wig behaved like a flying squirrel, to land on the windscreen of the following car! A few months ago, you may have spotted my post on wigs in the wind, putting it to the test in gale force gusts (video below) so what's my worry about  being in a car with the top down? Well it's simple - unlike blustery weather, the breeze generated by a car is constant - it is a constant speed in a constant direction, not letting up for anything. I was worried that the constant pressure would be too much on the wig, on the fitting and off it would go.

There was only one thing for it; to put my trusty Codi to the test and see how it fares...

Just to say, this video is shot with a Codi synthetic wig, properly adjusted with zero glue or tape. I would have proved these factors, but I didn't trust myself in a moving car!

#WigWorry: A windy day...?

A little while ago, I wrote about people having a #WigWorry, but haven't had time to write one since! It's time for another one though and this one is inspired by the weather outside!

I'm not sure about everyone else, but right now, in my area there's some gale force winds roaring around, and despite not being as cold, they're giving the mid-winter gales a run for their money! Talk about windy! Well, one of the things many people worry about when wearing a wig is that it'll blow off and they'll be left exposed, feeling more than a bit nippy! So how can you prevent it whipping off?

1. Buy a wig that fits... I know 'a wig that fits' sounds really stupid, but you'll be surprised how many people opt for the first wig they can find in desperate moments, or haven't got the experience to pick the right type of wig for them. When buying a wig, measure your head (I'll write a separate post on that), then ensure that the wig you are picking matches as closely as possible to your own measurements. If you can't find a close match, don't panic; I for one have 'abnormal' head measurements, with a large crown, small nape and medium circumference which makes buying an off-the-shelf wig more difficult. There's a solution for every head type though, so for me I opt for wigs with adjustable sections at the nape, enabling me to fit the wig to my head, but at the same time leaving room for the crown. I'll write a post on cap types too, but for the purposes of keeping this post simple, I'll simply advise you to pick the wig that fits. For some, it'll be an adjustable one, some will opt for silicone grippers and some will go for PVC they can glue. 
2. Properly adjust it... Whatever wig you opt for, ensure that it is properly adjusted on your head for both maximum comfort and security. If it's too shallow or not properly fitting, there will be areas that are more susceptible to gaping or springing off. If your wig is properly adjusted, it should feel comfortable, without giving you a headache and will withstand a gentle tug backwards. Obviously it isn't attached, so it will come off with a hard yank, but gently lifting should confirm an element of security.
3. Opt for added security... Personally, I don't need it, or particularly like it, but added security can be created through the use of adhesive tapes or glue. A few small sections will be just enough and no amount of wind will take it off. You can also add a beanie hat (because if it is windy, it's likely to be cold too), a hairband, or add a wig cap or grip band underneath the wig to ensure that it has additional friction.

Wind can be a bit of a pest to wig wearers and there will be times when it feels a little like it is lifting in the wind, but as yet, I haven't managed to lose mine on a windy day. To prove it, here is a YouTube video of the gale force winds blowing earlier in the week, and a make-up free, very grumpy faced video of me in my wig! Sorry I don't look a bit more enthusiastic, I was focussing on not being blown over!

The wig in this video is my trusty Codi from the Rene of Paris Amore collection, which is properly fitted on my head, has an adjustable nape which is tightened under my Ocsipital Bone (the lumps on the back of the skull) and has no tape, glue or wig cap. It is quite simply the wig as it comes, resting on my bare skin, blowing in the wind! Enjoy...

#WigWorry? Nights out...

My first #WigWorry is appearance...

Is a wig realistic? Will people notice? Will I still look as nice? Now obviously, I can't comment on the wig you are opting for / actually wear, however wigs are definitely something you should invest time, money and effort in; a good one will look ultra-glam and it's unlikely that ANYONE will notice it's a wig! Most people will simply comment on how nice your hair is and where you had it done - the biggest challenge you'll face is how to answer this and how much you're prepared to reveal!

This weekend, I went out clubbing with the bestie - I opted for my red fitted jumpsuit (think Wonder Woman or The Incredibles), my sleek brown bob and a fairly natural make-up look! In I strolled in my four inch, silver killers heels, feeling confident and glam and uber swish!

About halfway through the night, a particularly bubbly and happy chappy started staring at me! The stare went on a few seconds longer than was comfortable; I started to be concious - had my wig slipped, was it obvious, did I look somehow odd? A quick glance in the mirror confirmed it was still in place and looked as I expected, so did it just look fake? A few seconds later, all was revealed - over he strolls and says how lovely look (*blushes*), then he has the cheek to ask my age! Being the honest person I am, I tell the truth (the grand old age of 25 folks) and he looks at me in astonishment - "I didn't expect that" he says "I'm 19. Good on you for still being out at your age!"

So there you have it folks; my worst fears about my wig weren't realised! Nope, it's not about the way my wig looks; it's not that I didn't look like me! Instead, now I have something new to focus on - the fact that frankly, I'm apparently too old to venture into a club!
